We are delighted to announce that Geldards Charity Team have great pleasure in partnering with Brewin Dolphin and Broomfield Alexander to host the first All-Wales Charity Governance, Law and Finance Conference on Thursday 21st September 2017 at the All Nations Centre, Cardiff.

Operating in the third sector delivers many challenges. In addition to the responsibility of ensuring your organisation adheres to numerous legal requirements, organisations need to be accountable, transparent and are constantly under public scrutiny and it’s all too easy to get lost along the way.

Chaired by Ruth Marks CEO of the WCVA, the conference is aimed at Charity Trustees, Chief Executives and Finance Directors and will provide a wide variety of informative sessions, all offering practical advice and guidance from a range of experts to help you stay on the right track..

Breakout sessions & Speakers

Charity Law and sector update and Charities Act 2016 refresher training:
This session will consist of two parts. The first part will provide an overview of recent key changes in Charity Law as well as general sector updates to be aware of. In the second part we will deliver refresher training on the new Charities Act 2016
Giselle Davies, Geldards

What does an informed, engaged and effective Trustee look like?:
In recent times there has been a clear push by The Charity Commission to require Trustees to take their responsibilities and duties seriously and arm themselves with sector knowledge to ensure they are engaged and effective in the role. This session will cover what Trustees need to do to “step up to the mark” and what CEO’s and FD’s should expect from their board.
Sarah Case, Broomfield Alexander

Trustee Investment Governance:
A practical presentation to help Charity Trustees make their reserves work harder by investing with confidence. This session will cover Charity Commission rules and guidance, setting an investment policy, understanding and managing risk and the current investment environment.
Russell Hooper, Brewin Dolphin

GDPR Update - are you prepared for May 2018 ?:
The GDPR has been described as a “game changer for everyone”. Data protection is an area of law which is of particular relevance to charities who often process large amounts of personal data. This session will give delegates an overview of the significant changes to data protection the GDPR will introduce. We will be concentrating on the key issues for the sector such as privacy notices, consent practices and accountability. Delegates will leave the session with an awareness of the steps necessary to achieve compliance with the GDPR by May 2018.
Lowri Phillips, Geldards

Employment Law Update:
This session will provide delegates with a review of relevant employment case law from the past 12 months covering; working time, discrimination, disciplinary warnings, redundancy and dismissal, as well as key legislative developments such as mandatory gender pay gap reporting and the apprenticeship levy. We’ll also take a look at any relevant employment law developments which are on the horizon. Delegates will leave the session comfortable that they are up to date with current issues and informed about any changes to come.
Stephen Jenkins, Geldards

Annual UK Charity VAT burden = £1.5bn:
Just 1 (or 1.5bn) reason to ensure your Charity understands both its responsibilities to correctly account for VAT but also minimizes the VAT cost to your charity and maximize the funding to support your charitable objectives. Unfortunately we only have to look at the number of VAT cases against individual charities to realise that simply being a charitable body doesn’t relieve you from the VAT regulations. This VAT update creates the opportunity to catch up with the latest VAT themes impacting on the sector: Reliefs to reduce the VAT burden, Impact of Brexit on VAT, Grants or Contracts will be a part of this topical VAT Issues Update. Centurion VAT are the award winning independent VAT team based in Wales supporting charitable organisations across the UK.
Liz Maher , Centurion VAT Limited

In addition we will have key note speaker Geraint Talfan Davies from the Institute of Welsh Affairs.

Breakout session bookings will be taken closer to date. In the meantime, please book your place at the conference by completing the booking form below and returning the delegate details by 1st August 2017 .

We look forward to seeing you there.
