Geldards Advises in Largest Ever UK Charity Merger
In the largest ever merger of UK charities, the four national Age Concerns’ in the UK have joined together with Help the Aged to form, in each nation, a new super charity dedicated to improving the lives of older people.
Geldards advised on the Welsh part of the merger working closely with other legal advisors in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland in what was an extremely complex charity transaction resulting in the merger of these multimillion pound organisations to an exact timetable.

The merged Age Concern Cymru and Help the Aged in Wales activities will include influencing the formulation and review of policy that impacts on older people through consultation, research and campaigning. Enabling older people to exercise power and control their lives through training and engagement.

Geldards was instructed to act in respect of the Age Concern Cymru and Help the Aged, in Wales, part of the transaction relying on the expertise of a large team of experienced charity lawyers who advised on a variety of issues.

The transaction was led by Giselle Davies who heads the firm’s specialist multi-disciplinary charities team. Giselle said: “To our great delight, we have completed this merger to create one charity in Wales to improve the lives of older people. It was a pleasure to have worked on such a momentous merger.”
