In the present economic climate, charities and not-for-profit organisations face many challenges but they are also presented with real opportunities.

Our dedicated Charity law and Not-For-Profit team has a strong track record in helping hundreds of organisations throughout the UK navigate safely through the legal and regulatory maze.

Furthermore, as proactive volunteers ourselves, we know only too well how important it is to be able to make the most of every opportunity that comes along.

Unlike many regional practices, Geldards now has a large team of expert lawyers who work exclusively for charities and other third sector organisations. We provide practical, jargon-free advice based on our wide experience and specialist knowledge.

The team are further supported by colleagues across the firm who also have significant experience in providing advice in their particular practice area to third sector clients.

The firm continues to offer a broad spectrum of services to charitable organisations and has a diverse client base comprising in excess of 700 large and small charities across England and Wales which includes national charities, major religious bodies, Royal Charter organisations, museums, arts charities, community foundations, homeless shelters and umbrella bodies.

We advise social enterprises whether or not they are charities, including Community Interest Companies (CICs) and are often consulted on the best structure for establishing a social enterprise.

Our services include new start-ups, governance advice, reorganisations, property matters, employment advice, mergers and transfers, intellectual property protection, trustee liability, trading and taxation. Our clients include grant making bodies, service providers, housing associations and organisations working in the fields of art and culture, education, health, children and young persons, crime prevention, fire safety, equality, the environment, community regeneration and land management.
