The Information Commissioner has called it a “game changer for everyone” and “the biggest change to data protection law for a generation”.
Without any doubt, your organisation will deal with personal data to some extent; whether employee, volunteer, donor, beneficiary or supplier data.
The Commissioner has also made it very clear that charities and other third sector organisations will be expected to comply with the regulations. In light of the fines handed down in 2017 to charities for (amongst other practices) wealth screening and data matching, it is important that organisations get it right. So what is the GDPR?
Although May 2018 may seem like a long way off, there is much to be done in terms of preparation. Once it comes in it will have an immediate impact and any breach could result in fines of up to €20 million or 4% of global annual turnover. It is, therefore, something that should be on your radar now.
If you would like further information and to meet our Information Team sign up to our free of charge GDPR Seminar on Tuesday 27th February 2018 at our Derby Office by completing the booking form below. Spaces are limited so make sure you book on as soon as you can to ensure your place.
We hope to see you there.
