David Williams will travel to Shanghai and Hefei in China this weekend as part of a delegation of civic delegates and local businesses who will travel to China to promote Derby and build on the relationship between the two cities.
The trip is a return visit, after the biggest delegation of Chinese businessmen to the UK (excluding London) visited Derby from Hefei earlier this month. Four civic leaders and 17 Chinese businessmen spent four days in the city, which was shown off by local businesses, including David and Geldards, the City Council and Derby County Football Club.
In 2016 Derby partnered with the Chinese city. Hefei is a mid-China city and known for being one of the major cities in China opening up to the outside world. In 2010 and 2011 consecutively it was the fastest growing city in the world and now has a population of 7.8 million. The relationship between the two cities will allow trade, encourage tourism and present investment opportunities in both directions.
David’s visit to China, and relationship with delegates there, allows Geldards to support current and future clients who are interested in developing relationships with the city and wider province of Anhui, which has a population of around 60 million people. As more Chinese businesses visit the county and look to invest, Geldards also aims to be their law firm of choice.
On his upcoming trip, David said:
“I am really looking forward to returning to Hefei, this partnership is a great opportunity for Derby and I hope the public can recognise the effort being put in by local businesses to do something good. It is amazing how much the relationship between the two cities has built over the last 18 months, and I am excited to see how it further develops in the future for both Derby and for Geldards.”
David will be updating his Chairman’s Blog throughout his visit to China.
