Céline Jones, Solicitor at leading Welsh law firm Geldards LLP, has been appointed “Avocat Conseil auprès du Consulat Général et de l’Ambassade de France à Londres” – a prestigious Legal Counsel role to the French Embassy in the UK, and the first such award made to a Solicitor in Wales.

Marie Brousseau Navarro, Honorary Consul of France in Cardiff, has been amongst the first to welcome Celine’s appointment recognising her achievement in being the first appointment to the position in England & Wales outside of London. This appointment, which is highly sought after by the practicing French legal community in the UK, is at the discretion of the Consulate General of France in London and will enable Céline to advise the Consulate and wider French Businesses and Individuals on UK legal matters. Specifically, the role of the “avocat conseil” is threefold;

  • to advise generally on legal matters and provide legal expertise to the French Counsulate in London;
  • to defend the interest of the French consulate in contentious and non-contentious matters; and
  • to consult and provide an opinion as to future members of the panel.

Commenting on her appointment, Céline said;

“I am honoured to be recognised by the Consulate for this position. The UK remains one of the most attractive places in Europe and the World for the French to do business and live and subsequently there is a thriving French community here. Having access to French Nationals like myself who are UK qualified, recognised by a trusted authority and able to advise with an understanding of French culture & language, ensures that the renowned British legal system is less daunting for them.”

Commenting on the appointment, Paul Hopkins, Partner and Head of the International Team at Geldards added;

“We are delighted that CEline has been recognised with this appointment and in particular being the first person in Wales to do so. Celine is developing a strong reputation advising French clients in Wales and throughout the UK. The growth of our French practice, along with our German, Spanish and wider international offering means that both overseas and multinational clients can continue to receive a seamless and quality legal service from Wales leading law firm.”
