HM Courts & Tribunal Service (HMCTS) has published guidance for all users (litigants, witnesses etc.) of the courts and tribunals in England and Wales during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The guidance includes the following key points:
- The business of the courts and tribunals will continue, and any disruption will be kept to a minimum. Any changes to individual hearings will be communicated directly to those affected, usually by email or telephone.
- Court and tribunal users should continue to use the courts and tribunals as normal, as long as they do not have confirmed or possible COVID-19 infection or do not need to self-isolate in line with NHS advice. Those users who do have confirmed or possible COVID-19 infection or need to self-isolate in line with NHS advice should contact the court or tribunal in which the hearing is due to take place.
- Judges can consider the use of audio or video links for hearings in a number of circumstances during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The guidance, which will be updated as appropriate, can be accessed via this link - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-courts-and-tribunals-planning-and-preparation
