After the announcements on the tapering down of the furlough scheme we received a couple of weeks ago, we discussed them thoroughly in our F-Word webinar last week – a really black and white run through of what the changes mean for businesses. One thing that has come out of the new guidance is that there will be no new entrants allowed into the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (the Scheme) after 30 June 2020. This means that under the current furlough rules, employees must have completed 3 weeks of furlough by 30 June 2020. This doesn’t mean that they have to be actually on furlough on 30 June, just that they have to have had a 3 week furlough period by that date.
Why is this important? Well, the Scheme will close to new entrants after that date and so if you want to make use of flexible furlough from July onwards, you will only be able to do so for employees who have been furloughed under the old rules, for a full 3 week period by 30 June 2020. Not done it yet? Don’t worry you are not too late – you have until tomorrow to furlough employees to squeeze their 3 weeks in by 30 June……don’t miss it as there will be no extension to this.
Remember if you are furloughing employees you will need a furlough agreement in place. If you haven’t got one, do contact me and I can assist with this.
