According to research from the CIPD employers expect that the proportion of people working from home on a regular basis will increase to 37% once the pandemic is over. It is clear that the pandemic has resulted in a significant shift in the way many of us are working, and a considerable change in relation to how and where work will be done going forward.
It is important to remember however that this shift does not suit everyone, employers and employees alike. Many employers are concerned about how having a remote and dispersed workforce will impact upon culture, productivity and performance management. There are also a number of other considerations for employers such as managing health & safety, working time, data protection and contractual changes associated with a shift to home working. Equally, many employees are left horrified at the thought of a permanent requirement to work from home.
Employers need to consider how they will manage the balance of home working with a return to the workplace; ensuring confidence in the workforce that the workplace is Covid-secure, addressing issues such as vaccination requirements and protecting vulnerable employees are all factors in the balance that employers will need to strike going forward.
The Geldards Employment Team recognise the complexity of these issues for employers and we’ve put together a series of events over the next few weeks to help our clients consider and address these issues. We will have a Webinar setting out the legal framework of returning to the workplace, agile and flexible working, followed by two PowerHours looking at the practicalities of managing agile and flexible working and workplace vaccination issues such as mandatory vaccination, vaccination policies and managing employees who refuse or are unable to have the vaccination.
You can register for any or all of these free events by clicking on the relevant links above.
We will send out further invitations to the events in due course. We look forward to seeing you.
