Geldards is delighted to announce the acquisition of the long established practice of Derby and Ilkeston law firm, Robinsons.

The acquisition is designed to enhance the legal services Geldards provides in the East Midlands, particularly in the SME sector and to charities, agricultural and private clients.

Geldards’ Chief Executive Jeff Pearson said: “The acquisition of Robinsons is part of our strategic plan to build on our existing strengths in Derby and Nottingham, and to continue to expand our services to nationally recognised charities and private clients.

“We also look forward to bringing our own expertise to the fore - both for the benefit of Robinsons’ numerous business and personal clients and to their existing projects, including their work with the Erewash Partnership.”

All of Robinsons’ Principals and lawyers have joined Geldards’ Corporate, Charities & Social Enterprise, Dispute Resolution, Real Estate and Private Client teams.

Neil Barnes, the Managing Principal from Robinsons said: “The Principals at Robinsons have, for some time, been considering how best to maintain the high quality service that the firm has delivered to clients for many years.

“The increasingly competitive and evolving legal market makes now a good time to consider a merger with a larger organisation and we believe that there will be great synergy between the two firms that will benefit both Robinsons’ and Geldards’ clients.”

The acquisition of Robinsons is Geldards’ second in just over 12 months after the firm took on niche public services practice TPP-Law in July 2013.

David Williams, Geldards’ Chairman added: “As the economy starts to emerge into positive times, Geldards is looking to be more expansive-minded.

“The legal landscape remains challenging, but we’ve looked to stay ahead of the curve by taking the time to identify the specific requirements of our clients and moving quickly to strengthen the firm’s offering accordingly.”

As part of the acquisition Robinsons’ current Derby practice has moved to Geldards’ premises on Pride Park, whilst Geldards has retained Robinsons’ office in Ilkeston.
