Corporate lawyers at Geldards have advised on the sale of Swansea-based Gower Chemicals Ltd to a family-owned German company, Scheruhn Industrie Mineralien (SIM).

Established in 1978, Gower Chemicals is a chemical distribution business which offers a diversified portfolio of chemicals, related processing of chemicals (e.g. blending) and associated services.

Geldards advised Gower Chemicals’ shareholders throughout the sale. As Martyn Davies, a Senior Associate in the firm’s Corporate team, explained: “Geldards has worked with Gower since 2000 and we’re delighted to be involved in a deal that represents a great return for the shareholders exiting the business.

“We hope to continue working with Gower Chemicals in the future as the business continues to grow and gains benefit from the expertise and extended market reach that its new German owners provide.”

Following the transaction Gower Chemicals will now form part of an integrated hydrofluoric value chain, which is operated through German-based Fluorchemie Stulln GmbH and Fluorchemie Dohna GmbH (together “Fluorchemie”), owned by the Scheruhn family.

Fluorchemie is a leading producer of Hydrofluoric Acid in Europe and key supplier to Gower Chemicals.

Ian Butcher, finance director of Gower Chemicals, said: “Gower Chemicals would like to thank the retiring shareholders for all their hard work over the last 35 years and is excited to welcome SIM as the new owner.

“It is great that the existing highly experienced management and workforce at Swansea will be retained. This will ensure a seamless transaction for our valued customers and suppliers, who will continue to receive the high level of responsible care and service they have become accustomed to.”.
