Geldards’ Midlands-based Construction team have successfully advised Derby City Council on the contract for the construction of the new Moorways Sports Village, a comprehensive sports and leisure destination in Derby.

The Sports Village will consist of a new 50m pool that can be transformed into three separate pools for different activities at the same time, including a separate learner pool which will be an excellent environment for swimmers of all ages to have lessons. The Sports Village will also boast a water park with two four storey flumes along with England's first wave generating wow ball and wave rider slide, as well as a soft play area alongside a comprehensive health and fitness offering and café.

Derby City Council has approved a £42 million budget for the project and has provided and will continue to provide significant input and expertise for its delivery by the end of 2021. The building works will be carried out by Bowmer + Kirkland and project management will be provided by Mace.

The Geldards team was led by Partner Chris Hawrylak, who dealt with the construction contract on behalf of the Council, and was assisted by solicitor, Max Johnston.

Richard Samuel-Perry of Derby City Council, said about working with Geldards on the project:

“Geldards have been brilliant to work with on our Moorways Sports Village project. The ability of Chris and the team to respond to complex legal challenges against tight time frames has ensured all the negotiations and legal documentation reached an excellent conclusion. We consider Chris our go-to specialist on all the construction aspects of our transactions and we look forward to working with him and the team again in the future."

Commenting on the transaction, Chris, said:

“We are delighted to have worked with Derby City Council, on the construction contract of the new Moorways Sports Village. This state-of-the-art complex will offer local residents a great experience in our city as well as attracting visitors into Derby. I would like to thank the Council for working with us and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”
