With mental health awareness week still fresh in the mind, we thought we’d use our July PowerHour to discuss hidden disabilities.
With the potential to be very difficult and debilitating for employees to deal with, hidden disabilities can also be very challenging for employers to manage, in light of their obligations under the Equality Act 2010. This is particularly true in cases of constructive knowledge where employers are found liable because they ought reasonably to have known an employee was disabled and acted accordingly.
With these issues in mind we’ll be considering what amounts to a hidden disability and what an employer’s obligations are, both in relation to disability discrimination, and more widely in relation to general health and wellbeing.
As with all the previous sessions we’ve held, we’re keeping the numbers small, with a greater focus on discussing this topic in a relaxed atmosphere over breakfast.
