JONATHAN BUTLER



Jonathan specialises in resolving commercial disputes for private sector clients through litigation, arbitration, expert determination or mediation, and has advised on some of the firm’s most interesting, high-value, complex or document-heavy dispute resolution projects.

Jonathan’s substantial experience includes successfully defending a national construction company in a £22m claim for compensation arising out of defective air-conditioning at a retail park in the South East; successfully intervening in a rail company’s High Court claim for £20m for disruption to its business as a result of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link works at London St. Pancras International; obtaining a broad range of injunctions and freezing orders in a variety of sectors to protect commercial interests including intellectual property, against unlawful competition; representing household names in what have become some of the country’s leading cases on particular issues; and resolving complex contractual and breach of duty cases in a number of cross-border disputes including on-shore and marine seismic disputes in the UK, Spain and Kenya.

Jonathan is known for combining technical expertise with commercial pragmatism. As a result, he regularly advises major clients of the firm at a strategic level on dispute resolution issues.
