As the IR35 changes come into force in April 2020, we will be hosting two IR35 briefing and drop in sessions to cover The Five Hurdles of IR35 and how you can ensure you're ready when it comes into force in April 2020.

The first of these drop in sessions will take place on 20th November in Derby and 21st November in Nottingham. These drop in sessions are a forum for you to ask any questions or discuss any issues or concerns that you have with one of our professionals. Individuals will be allocated a 15 minute time slot where they will be able to meet with one of our Employment Law Professionals to discuss any queries or concerns they have relating to IR35.

The Five Hurdles of IR35

Hurdle 1 – November

Understanding IR35 and whether your business is caught – read our comprehensive IR35 bulletin and flowchart to understand whether you are caught by the IR35 rules. If so, come to one of our drop-in sessions this month to understand the new regime and how it may apply to your business. This is our first session.

Hurdle 2 - December

Are your contractors “deemed employees”? – understand more about the employment status of your contractors with helpful guidance from our experts. We are also offering you access to our lawyers at a discounted rate for advice on this issue.

Hurdle 3 - January

How are you going to deal with any “deemed employees”? Are you planning on employing your current contractors in preparation for IR35 - What do you need to do? - read our article on the best practice to bring contractors’ current contracts to an end and re-engage them on “true” employment contracts, including other ways to deal with your contractors in the wake of IR35. We will also extend our discounted rate for advice on this for this month too.

Hurdle 4 - February

How does IR35 affect tax? – attend our IR35 seminar where we will have Head of Employment Tax at Smith Cooper, Laura Parr presenting on the tax issues of IR35. The session will ensure you leave with a full understanding of how tax is affected by IR35 and what you need to do to make sure your payroll is ready, along with answering any questions you may have.

Hurdle 5 - March

‘It’s the final countdown’ – Are you ready? - go through our comprehensive checklist to ensure you’ve ticked every box and won’t fall at the last hurdle. There will be opportunity to ask any last-minute questions and speak to a dedicated member of our employment team. Ensuring you cross the finish line on 6th April 2020.

Please use the booking form below to sign up to attend one of our November drop-in sessions. We will be in touch to confirm your exact time slot and will do our best to accommodate your preferred time.
