Settlement Agreements have received quite a bit of press coverage recently particularly in relation to their use where allegations of sexual harassment have been made. This has led to the Solicitors Regulation Authority issuing a “warning notice” to practitioners in March on when non-disclosure provisions should be included in settlement agreements. There has also been a significant legislative change in relation to the taxation of payments in lieu of notice which came into force in April.
For our June PowerHour therefore we’ve decided to cast the spotlight on Settlement Agreements in general. We’ll look at the recent developments regarding confidentiality and non-disclosure provisions, the new taxation regime for payments in lieu of notice and address some other tricky questions which we’ve found cropping up in practice such as, can a settlement agreement be used to prevent an employee from raising a grievance or making a subject access request post-termination?
As with all the previous sessions we’ve held, we’re keeping the numbers small, with a greater focus on discussing this topic in a relaxed atmosphere over breakfast.
Come armed with your questions and we hope to see you there!
