The legislation to implement the £95k cap on exit payments in the public sector came into force on 4 November 2020. Despite being in the offing for several years, the proposed cap is now causing considerable controversy, not least because necessary changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme rules to accommodate the cap are unlikely to be done before the cap is introduced.
Significant concerns have been raised in relation to the implementation of the cap by organisations such as the LGA and the legislation is already the subject of judicial review actions by Trade Unions.
In this webinar we’ll take you through the detail of the legislation, any guidance in relation to its implementation and circumstances where exceptions to the cap may be permissible.
We’ll also cover the proposed changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme rules and the issues public sector employers may face if these changes are not made before the cap comes into force.
