Geldards young professionals networking group inTOUCH Cardiff returned with its infamous summer Ale Trail on 6th June. InTOUCH is a networking group aimed at young professionals in the South Wales area. The events hosted by inTOUCH encourage the growth of local business and business relationships. Geldards Trainee Gwenllian Reeves, describes the evening:
As a first-year trainee, this was my first experience of being involved with an inTOUCH event, however having attended internal training on networking and meetings with the inTOUCH steering group, I felt fully prepared and enthused.
This year the Ale Trail’s theme was ‘Summer’ and the event included a tour around the best local bars in Cardiff. The attendees were divided into 5 teams captained by individuals from Geldards; the Daiquiri’s, Pina Colada’s, Mojito’s, Cosmo’s and the Mimosa’s. Each bar then had a Summer themed challenge. The challenges in each bar varied from Celebrity Love Island to the Hula Hoop Challenge (hula skirts optional). The bars were decorated with bunting, inflatable palm trees and even a sand pit!
The light-hearted nature of the challenges was a fantastic opportunity to network in a fun environment. That being said, the competitive element was equally enjoyable as it encouraged people to work as a team. Individuals from Geldards were also divided between the bars to station a challenge and take a note of the points. I was stationed on the Hula Hoop challenge, with a different team participating every half an hour. Being stationed on a challenge gave me a sense of responsibility as well as the opportunity to meet everyone attending the event.
Following completion of all the challenges; everyone then joined together for a delicious hot meal, drinks and networking before the big reveal of the wining team. This year, the winning team were the Daiquiri’s, captained by Geldards Commercial Property Solicitor, Henry Bright. It was fantastic to see everything coming together at the end and to receive feedback from the attendees.
At Geldards we pride ourselves on doing things differently, this ethos is evident in our approach to networking as well. In stark contrast to your usual networking events, exchanging business cards and adding contacts on LinkedIn was a natural afterthought to an evening of friendly competition and exploring.
I think I speak on behalf of all inTOUCH debutants when I say that I thoroughly look forward to our next event.
Attendees at the Ale Trail commented:
“We were genuinely gutted when the event wasn’t run last year. Here’s to it being an annual event once again!"
“It is hands down the best networking/social event in Cardiff”
“The best social event of the year. Every year”
