We know time is of the essence for Headteachers and senior managers within schools. With that in mind, for 2020 Geldards is launching a series of free training sessions at our office in Cardiff on a range of hot employment law topics.
These sessions will start at around 8.30am and last around an hour and a half. They will give you an overview of the topic together with a chance to quiz our employment lawyers in a Q&A session.
Redundancy and Restructuring - Tuesday 4th February 2020 @ 8.30am
We know that restructuring within a school is never an enviable task and ensuring a restructure is undertaken in a way that is fair and lawful can be a daunting prospect. This session will provide you with an understanding of how to manage a redundancy process, how to ensure that process is fair and lawful and the pitfalls to avoid. We will also provide you with strategic approaches and solutions to issues involving redundancies.
Data protection – Tuesday 3rd March 2020 @ 8.30am
Data protection law has undergone significant change as a result of the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. This session will provide you with an overview of the key aspects of ongoing compliance with data protection law, together with strategies for dealing with subject access requests and requests for erasure, data breaches and data breach reporting obligations.
Staff & pupil monitoring – Tuesday 5th May 2020 @8.30am
Through our work with schools we are finding that the monitoring of classrooms and public areas in schools is become increasingly prevalent. Monitoring can be used for a variety of reasons from managing the performance of teachers and class room assistants to ensuring the safety of staff in the classroom. There are legal requirements which must be satisfied regardless of the reason for monitoring, and the rights of privacy of staff and pupils must be considered. This training session will provide you with an overview of the compliance requirements to ensure monitoring is undertaken lawfully together with a look at how to introduce monitoring whilst managing privacy expectations.
Disciplinary Investigations – Tuesday 2nd June 2020 @8.30am
A rigorous and reasonable investigation is required to underpin any disciplinary action. In this session you will get an overview of the key requirements to ensure any disciplinary investigation undertaken is robust and fit for purpose, and satisfies the requirements of employment legislation, Welsh Government guidance and the ACAS Code of Practice. You will also be given guidance on how to deal with difficult issues such as dealing with tight timescales, anonymity of witnesses and confidentiality.
We can also deliver bespoke training sessions at your school at an agreed fee. For further information contact Kim Howell.
We look forward to seeing you there.
