The Cardiff Dispute Resolution team at law firm Geldards LLP are celebrating as a high-profile case they are advising on has been included in The Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases of 2019; the second year running that the work of the team has been included in this prestigious annual list.

Published by The Lawyer in January each year, the much-anticipated list highlights the 20 cases scheduled for the year that are deemed to be the highest profile for a number of reasons including value, legal complexity, profile and overall significance.

Highlighted in the 2019 feature is the matter where Geldards are currently advising the Welsh Government and seven Local Health Boards in the case of The Secretary of State for Health and the NHS Business Services Authority V Servier Laboratories Limited. A high profile and high value case, the Secretary of State for Health, the Welsh Ministers, the Scottish Ministers, the Department of Health for Northern Ireland and the NHS allege a breach of EU and UK competition law after the French pharmaceutical giant Servier paid to delay the entry into the market of generic versions of its blood pressure lowering ‘blockbuster’ drug, Perindopril.

In 2018, Geldards were also included in the list as advisers in the equally high profile and crowdfunded claim against The Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union that contended that the UK Government had not made a “decision to withdraw” from the EU in accordance with its own constitutional requirements.

Commenting on this year’s publication, Paul Hopkins, Partner and Head of the Dispute Resolution team at Geldards, said;

“I’m delighted that the work of the team has been included in this annual prestigious list for the second year in a row. Both cases represent the high calibre and complex work we undertake on a regular basis for a wide variety of clients.”

“The annual list produced by The Lawyer is eagerly anticipated in legal circles and it is very rewarding for myself and the team to see our work in such exalted company and compared to some of the biggest and high profiles disputes internationally.”
