Geldards celebrates successful year of partnership with St. Athan Primary School

Geldards is celebrating a successful year of working in partnership with the pupils of St. Athan Primary School in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Taking part in 2B Enterprising’s ‘Bumbles of Honeywood’ programme, Geldards has been working closely with Year 3 St Athan’s pupils over the past year helping them to learn more about the world of work. The programme, devised by educational specialists at the 2B Enterprising partnership, partners businesses with schools to help children aged 5-7 years learn essential life skills, and inspire the next generation of budding entrepreneurs.

Funded by corporate business support, children learn more about issues such as wellbeing, sustainability and diversity using books and lesson plans following the Bumble Family of bees from Honeywood as they navigate life’s challenges. The programme is brought to life by visits from businesses to share their lived experiences and encourage classroom discussions about the workplace and future careers.

Leading the team from Geldards, Ella Harmer (Associate, Property Dispute Resolution) and Ellie Hughes (Marketing Executive) have made regular visits to the school and hosted visits by the pupils to Geldards’ Cardiff offices in CQ4.

The most recent visit to Geldards in January saw pupils take part in a workshop to design their very own law firm and present their ideas to a panel. Working in groups the children used problem solving skills, put teamwork into practice and built confidence by sharing their ideas. A judging panel comprising legal professionals and teachers awarded a certificate to the winning group for the ‘Most Creative Law Firm’.

Ella Harmer commented:

“Being involved in the programme has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve loved seeing the ideas the children have come up with during the workshops – from designing their own business cards to show off their skills, to talking about why we go to work and what jobs actually involve. Their creativity and curiosity have been amazing, and I really hope we’ve inspired them to feel excited about the world of work and the possibilities open to them.”

Ellie Hughes commented:

“It’s been such a lovely experience, we’ve had the privilege of supporting them since they were in Year 1 and watching them grow in confidence and creativity over that time has been incredibly rewarding. I don’t think I quite expected just how imaginative and thoughtful they would be. They have genuinely impressed us and definitely kept us on our toes! I think we may have some future Marketing Executives and Solicitors in the making.

It’s been a brilliant partnership for everyone involved at Geldards. Being able to play a small part in their journey from Year 1 onwards and help broaden their understanding of the world of work, has been really special.”

Helen Snow, Partner & Head of Public Sector Wales said:

“Geldards Partnership with St. Athan Primary School through the 2B Enterprising partnership Bumbles of Honeywood programme over the past year has been absolutely brilliant. Our team has thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with the pupils, helping them to shape ideas, encouraging their skills and watching their confidence grow.

As a firm we are committed to supporting our local communities and what better way than to work with the business stars of the future!”
