Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

This webpage explains how we may use artificial intelligence (AI) in connection with your matter, and highlights some important risks associated with clients using open source or public AI tools themselves.

We may use AI enabled tools to support aspects of our legal work, for example to assist with research, document review, to summarise or improve efficiency.  Any AI tools used by the firm are secure and protect confidentiality and personal data.

Please do not input confidential or legally sensitive information yourself into public or open-source AI tools (such as freely available chatbots or online AI platforms).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Will AI replace my lawyer?

No. AI is used only as a support tool to assist our lawyers. All legal advice, decisions and communications are made by qualified lawyers who remain fully responsible for your matter.

What types of AI might you use on my matter?

AI may be used to assist with tasks such as legal research, reviewing or summarising documents, or improving efficiency. It is not used to make decisions independently or to provide advice directly to clients.

Is my information safe if you use AI?

Yes. Any AI tools we use are secure, professionally managed and subject to safeguards designed to protect confidentiality and personal data. All use of AI complies with our professional and regulatory obligations.

Will my data be used to train AI systems?

No. We do not allow confidential client information to be used to train public or third-party AI systems without appropriate safeguards and contractual protections.

Can I opt out of AI being used on my matter?

If you have concerns about the use of AI, please discuss this with us. We are happy to explain how AI may be used in your matter and to consider any reasonable preferences.

What should I do if I have already used an AI tool in relation to my matter?

Please do not use your own or a free AI tool to upload or summarise any of our advice, record meetings etc. If you have done this, please let us know as soon as possible. This allows us to assess whether there is any impact on confidentiality, privilege or risk and to advise you appropriately.
