Family Mediation Voucher Scheme to help thousands more parents

To coincide with Family Mediation Week, the Ministry of Justice has pledged additional funding of £1.3m to help families avoid stressful court room battles. Lord Wolfson recognised that unless there are safeguarding concerns, mediation should be the default option.

The family mediation voucher scheme was launched in March last year and initial research suggest it has been a great success. Over 4,400 vouchers have already been used and 77% of those cases have reached a whole or partial agreement without subsequent litigation.

What is the Family Mediation Voucher Scheme?

The voucher scheme is a time limited scheme, designed to help families access mediation services. Each family is entitled to a one-off contribution of up to £500 towards their mediation costs.

Only mediators authorised by the Family Mediation Council are taking part in the voucher scheme and here at Geldards, we are pleased to be part of it.

How do I apply for a family mediation voucher?

At your initial meeting, we will discuss the voucher scheme with you and determine if your case is eligible. You will be offered a voucher contribution subject to suitability, case type and availability.

Vouchers can assist in cases where there is a dispute regarding a child; be it an isolated issue or one where there are also financial matters to be resolved.

If you are eligible and decide to proceed with mediation, we will apply for the voucher funding on your behalf.
