Football Season - Could You Be A Football Widow?
Are you tired of being ignored? Is your partner on their phone or glued to the TV and disengaged in what you are saying? Are they at the pub most evenings? Are they always talking about Kane, Sterling or Mount? Are you tired of endless football? Even when the game is over, highlights and their own commentary continue.
If so, it might be that you are a “Football Widow”.
Unlike WAGs, there is no glamour attached and money worries and your children might be your primary concern.
Whether or not it’s coming home, when the nation’s euphoria ends, are those feelings of isolation and loneliness likely to continue? Is this the final straw in your relationship; whether you are married, in a civil partnership or in a cohabiting relationship?
If you are married, there is one ground to divorce, which is that the marriage has broken down irretrievably. Under current law, this is proven by one of five facts:
- Unreasonable behaviour
- Adultery
- 2 years separation with consent.
- 5 years separation.
- Desertion.
Most cases proceed on the basis of unreasonable behaviour and those feelings of loneliness and abandonment can be used as examples of such behaviour. In the majority of cases, the basis of the divorce has no bearing on financial matters. Behaviour is only relevant to a financial settlement in extreme cases.
We welcome the introduction of the new legislation coming into effect on 6 April 2022 in which married couples wishing to divorce can do so without blame or waiting long periods of time.
We specialise in assisting those going through a relationship breakdown of any sort and can help. Just call or email a member of our Family Team for more information.
