Geldards celebrates a decade of support for Derby Book Festival

Geldards is a proud sponsor of Derby Book Festival and this year’s festival marks 10 years since the nationally acclaimed law firm first supported the annual literary celebration.

Running from 30th May – 5th June 2024 the week-long festival includes over 100 book-related events, including writers’ talks, children’s storytelling sessions, workshops and a host of other creative events helping to bring books to life.

Derby Book Festival is funded by the University of Derby, the Arts Council England, and local business sponsors. Having backed the Festival since its inception a decade ago,  Geldards is delighted to once again be supporting one of the most popular events in any book-lovers’ calendar.

Run by a small group of staff supported by a charitable team of more than 80 volunteers, the Festival showcases a diverse and interesting programme of events, attracting internationally renowned writers, poets, historians, and storytellers to the city.

Geldards is delighted to be sponsoring some extremely exciting writer talks during the festival.  Award-winning Guardian journalist Polly Toynbee discusses ‘An Uneasy Inheritance’ her heartfelt memoir exploring class equality,  whilst LBC Radio host James O’Brien’s bestseller ‘How they Broke Britain’ considers recent UK political events. Finally Mick Conefrey’s ‘Fallen’ examines the intriguing mystery surrounding world-famous explorer George Mallory who disappeared on Mount Everest in 1924. All discussions which take place at QUAD promise to give plenty of food for thought, tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from www.derbybookfestival.co.uk.

David Williams Chairman, Geldards says:

“It is hard to believe that Geldards has been supporting Derby Book Festival for a whole decade! Just think how many young readers have been inspired during that time. The Festival plays an important role in Derby’s cultural calendar, attracting visitors to the city and celebrating our diverse and talented literary community.

Geldards is pleased to be supporting such a wide variety of writers’ discussions, bringing to life some very pertinent and stimulating topics. We look forward to enjoying the many interesting events the Festival offers and are delighted to be part of this success story for Derby.”

Sian Hoyle, Executive Director of Derby Book Festival commented:

“From the very early days of Derby Book Festival, Geldards’ support and encouragement has given us the confidence to seek out some of the most exciting and interesting writers in the UK and introduce them to Derby audiences.  The cultural life of our city is vital to its success and we are grateful to Geldards and other business partners for recognising this and showing their commitment.”
