Geldards’ Medical Negligence expert secures AvMA accreditation

Geldards Medical Negligence team are specialists with a proven track record in achieving justice and compensation for victims of medical negligence. The team of experienced clinical negligence solicitors led by Partner Spencer Collier has recovered many millions in damages for clients injured as a result of negligent medical occurrences.

Spencer has over 30 years of experience dealing with a broad variety of clinical negligence cases, including cerebral palsy, spinal injury, amputations, surgical errors, delayed diagnosis of cancer and claims under the Fatal Accidents Act 1976. Spencer has recently been reaccredited to the Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) specialist clinical negligence panel for a further five years.

An independent, patient-centred charity AvMA’s specialist panel of approved medical negligence solicitors matches potential claimants to a solicitor with the appropriate expertise to support their case. AvMA champions patient safety and justice across the UK and is often the first port of call for people seeking a medical negligence claim, offering a free helpline operated by experienced solicitors and free online resources.

Appointment to the panel is carried out by an extremely rigorous assessment process which ensures only the most experienced, qualified and professional solicitors are approved. Solicitors who sit on the AvMA panel are not only experts in the field but are known for their exemplary customer care and empathy. After a five-year tenure on the panel, legal experts undertake a reaccreditation process to remain on the panel.

Commenting on his successful reaccreditation Spencer said:

“AvMA is an important charity that fights for greater patient safety and justice for those who have experienced failings in medical care. We are proud to support its work. I have been a part of its solicitor panel since 2006 and our specialist senior associate Rachel Kirby regularly volunteers on its helpline, offering free legal advice.

“AvMA help to explain people’s rights and explore of all their options following a medical accident, whether that’s supporting them through an investigation, making a complaint or starting legal action. They also campaign for changes in medical law to improve patient safety.”

Paul Whiteing, Chief Executive of AvMA, said:

“It is good to have Spencer still on board. We are most grateful for the role he has played over the years in helping victims of medical accidents to access justice, and in helping us raise standards in clinical negligence practice.”
