Unfair dismissal remains one of the most common Employment Tribunal claims faced by employers and, with the Employment Rights Act 2025 reducing the qualifying period for ordinary unfair dismissal protection from two years to six months and increasing the time limits for bringing claims employers are likely to see a significant increase in potential claims in 2027.

In this practical in-person employment law masterclass, our Employment Team will explore how employers should approach dismissal situations, the legal framework governing unfair dismissal claims, and the steps organisations can take to reduce risk and ensure that fair procedures are followed.

We will take a detailed look at the potentially fair reasons for dismissal and consider the practical challenges employers face when dealing with misconduct, poor performance and ill health, and provide practical tips on identifying when a dismissal for “some other substantial reason” (SOSR) may be appropriate.
