Employment PowerHour - Employment Law Update May 2024

2024 is shaping up to be quite a significant one from an employment law perspective.

Several employment law changes have recently come into effect which will have a significant practical impact including:

  • changes to flexible working,
  • the introduction of Carer’s leave,
  • increased protection against redundancy for pregnant employees,
  • greater flexibility for paternity leave, and
  • changes to the holiday entitlement and calculation of holiday pay for irregular hours workers.

Further changes are also expected later on in the year, we’re anticipating the new code of practice on fire and rehire before the summer, the right to request more predictable working patterns and a new law requiring employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment in the autumn.

In our May PowerHour we took a look at all of these changes and provided our insights in terms of how they will impact in practice and what you need to be considering in terms of your existing policies and procedure.
