Geldards proudly supports Blŵm Festival – a celebration of Muslim women, young people & Welsh communities

Geldards is proud to support the first ever Blŵm Festival in Cardiff which celebrates Muslim women, young people and Welsh communities. The community event, which is hosted by the Muslim Council of Wales, is taking place on 19th July at historic Insole Court in Llandaff.

Named Blŵm, which is Welsh for ‘Bloom’, the festival brings together communities from across Wales, including women’s organisations, creative projects and health advocates to create an inspiring day for families to learn, collaborate and grow together.  Throughout the day there is a full programme of informative talks and panel discussions, wellbeing and fitness activities, creative workshops and children’s play sessions.

Geldards’ Family Law Partner Aysha Chouhdary, will be hosting an interactive session during the day on ‘Knowing your legal rights as a Muslim Woman’. Aysha is one of the few family lawyers in the UK offering advice on religious, cultural and international jurisdiction issues particularly Shariah Law and Islamic Rulings. She heads up a specialist Shariah Family law service at Geldards and is a talented multi-linguist, with languages including Urdu, Mirpuri, Punjabi and Hindi.

Aysha is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion, and as the first British-Pakistani Muslim appointed to Cardiff & District Law Society, she is the current Chair of the Ethnicity Network. She actively supports students and junior lawyers on their journey into the legal profession, particularly ethnically diverse women, who often face additional challenges. The strides she has made for diversity and inclusion are widely acclaimed, and she is the recipient of numerous national awards which recognise her significant contribution to the legal community.

Commenting on the Blŵm Festival, Aysha Chouhdary said:

“The Blŵm Festival is a monumental moment for the Muslim community here in Wales as we come together to celebrate, inspire and launch the Muslim Women’s Network (as part of the Muslim Council of Wales). I am delighted to be a part of this inaugural event, bringing together people from all walks of life, whether through their professional or personal connections, with the common goal of sharing our faith and practical lessons for living life.

Geldards has always been committed to supporting and empowering communities through access to expert legal advice, advocacy, and guidance on matters affecting individuals and families across Wales and beyond. It is an absolute privilege to be a Partner at an organisation that supports multicultural events like these, and the rich tapestry of people in our community. I feel both honoured and proud.”
