Resolution’s Good Divorce Week; why divorce does not have to mean conflict
The Family Team at Geldards are proud to be members of Resolution, a national organisation of family lawyers committed to resolving family law disputes constructively, cost effectively and with a focus on the needs of the whole family.
This #GoodDivorceWeek, we’re highlighting how Resolution’s 6,500 members are helping families resolve issues away from court, saving time, reducing conflict and supporting better outcomes for children.
Divorce doesn’t have to mean conflict
What is “Good Divorce Week”?
“Good Divorce Week” is an annual event organised by Resolution to raise awareness of the importance of having a good divorce. This includes trying to keep conflict to a minimum, reducing legal costs and concentrating on maintaining a respectful and hopefully amicable relationship in the future particularly for the benefit of any children.
Good Divorce Week 2025
This year “Good Divorce Week 2025” focuses on Resolution’s Code of Practice, which Resolution member subscribe to and apply when working with separating couples. The Code encourages constructive dialogue, helps to reduce conflict and focuses on long-term solutions that work for families.
Divorce doesn’t have to mean conflict: what options are there to keep matters out of court?
Reducing conflict includes avoiding a lengthy and adversarial court process if possible and where appropriate. Family court delays are at crisis levels, but not every family needs to go to court to find solutions.
At Geldards, we support and offer a full range of out-of-court solutions, known as Non-Court Dispute Resolution (NCDR).
NCDR options include negotiation via solicitors, Family Mediation, Family Arbitration, Collaborative family law, Private Financial Dispute Resolution Hearings (PFDRs) and early neutral evaluation.
If you would like to discuss how to achieve a good divorce and the non-court options for resolving disputes regarding finances and/or children and child arrangements following a relationship breakdown, please contact the Geldards Family Law team.
Fiona Apthope is a Family Arbitrator, A Family Mediator, a Collaborative Lawyer, an early neutral evaluator, a Deputy District Judge and an experienced family lawyer. She is also a committed member of Resolution.
