Stepping Out In Lockdown - Raising funds for the Child Brain Injury Trust

When lockdown no 3 rolled around, Geldards’ Medical Negligence team knew they wanted to do something worthwhile that would not only help them bond as team, but would raise funds for a deserving cause close to their hearts – The Child Brain Injury Trust.

Associate Rachel Kirby says:

“I noticed several fundraising activities on social media in January and thought it would be great for the Medical Negligence team to have a challenge to focus on during the latest lockdown. As well as improving staff well-being we want to raise money for a charity that is so deserving”.

The team decided on a virtual office to office walk to raise funds for the Child Brain Injury Trust and set themselves the goal of collectively achieving 455 miles by the end of January – a distance equating to a tour of all the Geldards’ offices in Cardiff, Derby, Nottingham, London and back again to Cardiff.

The Child Brain Injury Trust (CBIT) supports children with brain injuries to improve their quality of life. The team chose this charity as it goes hand in hand with their work helping claimants pursue medical negligence cases including cases such as severe cerebral palsy. The Geldards’ team has recovered millions in damages for clients injured as a result of negligent medical treatment.

Taking part in the challenge are team members Rachel Kirby, Donna Makin, Spencer Collier, Lindy Harris, Amy-Beth Probert, Jo Holden, Alison Ling and Matthew Williams.

Each member of the team has a goal to complete their daily exercise outside and they are working hard to clock up the miles. Every single day in January whatever the weather, the team walk or run to meet their challenge – motivated by a group chat where they share their musical inspiration ranging from Little Mix to Metallica.

Week one of the challenge is complete and the team made a brilliant start and collectively travelled over 109 miles the distance from Geldards’ Cardiff office almost to Drayton Manor Theme park – go team!

Week Two is under their belts and they travelled a further 137 miles, almost reaching  Gulliver’s Land Theme Park and well on target to meeting the halfway point in the challenge.

In Week Three they travelled another 121 miles in their epic journey and were on the M4 just past junction 13 approaching Chieveley services.

The fourth and final week saw the team smash their target of 455 miles and they walked an additional 42 miles making their total collective distance 497 miles – a complete tour of all the Geldards’ offices.

Not only have they walked their socks off, they have beaten their fundraising goal and raised more than £1000 of much needed funding for the Child Brain Injury trust.
