Children & Their Education

How we can support you & your child

Every child or young person with special educational needs/additional learning needs and/or disabilities is entitled to an education that ensures they can achieve the best possible outcome in their learning, future career and life. Unfortunately, many children or young people go without education, health and care plans or are provided with plans that do not provide the provision they desperately need.

The Geldards Education Team are leading experts in all aspects of special educational needs (SEN) law, additional learning needs (ALN) law and disability law. We work with parents to get the health/care plans that a local authority must provide a child to receive the support necessary to meet their learning needs. We have a proven track record of success and have helped thousands of parents, including when necessary, appealing to the Educational Tribunal for Wales. We are also experts in school admissions law and can help parents if you believe that your child has been unfairly turned down for a place at a school of your choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, our education law team has a proven track record of success and have helped thousands of parents ensure their children get the support they need.

An EHCP or Education, Health and Care Plan is a legal document setting out the needs of a child or young person who need additional support in school or learning environment.

Usually following a medical diagnosis or conversation with your child’s school, you can apply for an EHC needs assessment through your local authority. You will need to provide evidence of existing support your child is recieving, any medical referrals or reports and reports from the school. Your local authority will then prepare a draft plan for review. EHCP’s are reviewed annually.

Also called A PLP (personalised learning plan) an IEP or individual education plan is a detailed plan for a school describing the provisions and adaptations that a child needs in order to remain in that setting.

We will provide you with a free 30 minute consultation initially where will discuss all options with you including legal aid.

You should not experience any problems relating to your child’s ongoing education from a person or institution you are claiming against. However, some people do feel uncomfortable, and you have the right to request to transfer their education elsewhere.
