Protection From Eviction For Welsh Residential Tenants

The Welsh Government has recently announced an extension to the suspension of evictions of residential tenants in Wales, until 31 March 2021.

The Public Health (Protection from Eviction) (Wales) (Coronavirus) Regulations 2021 (“the Regulations”) came into force on 11 January 2021. The Regulations suspend evictions in both the social and private rental sectors. Evictions as a result of anti-social behaviour or domestic violence are, however, excepted from the Regulations and are permitted to take place. The Regulations seek to protect public health, and offer support to tenants who may otherwise face difficulty in securing alternative accommodation, especially in circumstances where we are urged to stay at home.

Similar protection has been extended to residential tenants in England.
