Nearly a third of England’s population live in areas with two-tier local government where services and responsibilities are split between county and district councils.
Described as a “once-in-a-generation” overhaul, the aim of local government reorganisation is to end the two-tier system and establish new single-tier unitary councils. These new authorities are intended to strengthen local councils, improve public services, and empower communities.
In our final session, we will explore key people, governance, and organisational considerations associated with LGR, including employment matters, wider governance arrangements, and how to establish a strong culture for the new authority from day one.
