Local government reorganisation: Practical guidance Webinar Series (Part 2)
With the final decisions on local government reorganisation (LGR) now published, the UK Government has confirmed the model of LGR selected for the 14 remaining areas. Join us on Thursday 20th August for the second webinar in our series exploring the latest LGR guidance.
Nearly a third of England’s population live in areas with two-tier local government where services and responsibilities are split between county and district councils.
Described as a “once-in-a-generation” reform, the aim of local government reorganisation is to end the two-tier system and establish new single-tier unitary councils. These new authorities are intended to strengthen local councils, improve public services, and empower communities.
Following on from the first session, this second session will explore the practical and legal considerations involved in implementing LGR, including Directions under section 24 of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007, agreements under section 16, inter-authority agreements, and the management of contractual and corporate matters.
