Social Partnership and Public Procurement Wales Act 2023 - 19th March 2025

The Social Partnership and Public Procurement Wales Act 2023 complements the Procurement Act 2023 by introducing additional provision to promote socially responsible procurement of public contracts in Wales. Contracting authorities will be subject to a duty to carry out procurement in a socially responsible way and will be obliged to include in major construction contracts model clauses relating to payments, employment, compliance, training, sub-contracting and environment, based on model clauses published by the Welsh Government. Suppliers who do business with the public sector in Wales will need to be able to comply with the requirements of such clauses.

The event was held on Wednesday 19th March at the Geldards Cardiff Office. For our seminar we discussed the requirements of the Social Partnership and Public Procurement (Wales) Act 2023. In conjunction with a presentation by legal advisers from Geldards’ Public Sector Team we were joined by Sue Hurrell from the Welsh Government, who presented an overview of the Act.
